How VAT works on your receipts
Most Nigerian receipts show prices with VAT already inside. To find the VAT in a total, divide the total by 1.075 and subtract that from the total. A ₦10,750 receipt holds ₦750 of VAT.
If your business is VAT-registered, the VAT you pay on purchases is input VAT. You offset it against the VAT you charge customers. Every receipt you lose is input VAT you can't prove.
Based on the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, effective 1 January 2026. Confirm with your tax adviser before filing.
Your next VAT return is due on the 21st.
